Classes, Mentoring, and Critique

If you are looking to improve your skills, I would be happy to give you a helping hand! I've spent about ten years absorbing a mass of information on running a business and creating amazing photographs. I'm now a full-time photographer with a successful business.

I enjoy making the most complex of topics easily understandable for everyone: I will never make you feel small for asking even the silliest of questions. My goal is for you to not only come away armed with more knowledge, but to feel encouraged and empowered to get out there and make something beautiful.

My current classes are listed below. Each one features one-on-one instruction, tailored to you- with plenty of time to answer your questions thoroughly. I'm also available in the weeks after your class to answer lingering questions. For in-person classes, we'll always do lots of shooting, so you'll get the benefit of hands-on learning!

In-person classes are located in my home in Grand Ledge, MI (near West Lansing) and include plenty of shooting and hands-on learning. Classes are not *limited* in time, but average expected class times are included below. Classes are held Monday - Wednesday and are flexible in time of day.

Classes and Workshops for Photographers

In-Person Classes:

Off Camera Flash Class

Cost: $500  | Average class time: 5 hours | Also available online via webcam!

Are you scared of your flash? (or maybe it's just more of a lov/hate relationship that's a little more on the "hate" side haha?) This class will help you ditch those fears and will make you love shooting with flash- in any situation!

This class is tailored to your current skill level, needs, and questions. After booking your class date and time, I'll ask you a couple of simple questions to help me see how best to help you specifically.

Brand new to flash? I'll cover how to choose gear, basics on how to use your gear, flash and lighting concepts, practical usage, lighting modifiers, and basic lighting techniques. We'll do lots of shooting! (if you do not yet have a flash and trigger/receiver set, I will help you to choose an easy, inexpensive kit that fits your needs before your class date)

Feeling okay with using flash, but looking to learn more? In addition to any of the above info you may need, we'll get into the nitty gritty of shooting through challenging situations. I'll help you understand why the shots that you don't like aren't working, and help you build the skills to blow away your clients with gorgeous lighting and make your life easier! If you have specific scenarios / challenges you face, or particular questions, we'll cover them.

You'll learn:

  • How flash works (and how to fix it when it doesn't)
  • How to choose the best lighting tools
  • How to select the right settings with confidence
  • How to bounce light properly
  • Flattering body types with flash
  • Matching color to make editing a breeze
  • Which modifiers are worth it (and not)
  • and more!

Website Critique (Online Class)

$150 | Minimum class time: 30 minutes
Requirements: A semi-finished or fully finished Website/blog

Your website should be pulling in clients that adore you and your style! Feel like your website isn't living up to it's potential? Frustrated and unsure what to do to make it better?

I will thoroughly investigate your site's layout, images, text, design, colors- everything! With a "client's eye", I'll tell you exactly what you can do to make major improvements in your site and make it more effective in getting bookings! I'll also address SEO basics, if needed, and give you easy to follow instructions on how to make sure that Google loves you!

Website CC recordings are a minimum of one hour, and tend to be about an hour and a half on average- so you'll get a ton of great advice! After the review is done, we'll spend the next week chatting about your needed changes, addressing your questions, and offering follow-up CC on changes that you make based on your website review.
